You can sit in the corner window for 8 people or hang outside with 4 tables...
Yes, but like most independents, it can be spotty. You can get the WiFi from Starbucks if you sit in the right corner.
They are always open.. 7- midnight
Cool atmosphere but the worst iced mocha I've ever had
Nice place for tea.
Good coffee and good people..
Old school coffee house, surviving very well with both a Starbucks and a Peet's within a block. The current art display is some great photography from/of Cuba
Its great. Very chill. I like that it's spacious
Much better than the cookie cutter brand coffee cafes on piedmont. Complainers are sbux yuppie hipsters. This place is authentic, chill and way less hectic than the big box cafes. Great wifi too.
Great Place. Owner Russ is the best!!! Can talk about any subject with ease. A real professional!!!
Great time!
This is a nice spot for a quick coffee and pastry. I really liked that there are a lot of small tables. I came in a bit later around 6pm and it was crowded but I was able to get a table with my friend. They offer wi-fi and the coffee and food was good and a good price. The other thing I really liked about the place is that it is open until midnight! This is a good find considering that a lot of coffee shops in the area close around 7pm the latest (this is why it earned its 5 stars). It's a great spot if you can get over the limited parking
Interesting choices for food and drink, small tables and chairs. They have wifi but no power for laptops. They used to have special chocolate to make Gaylord Smokehouse, but as of last week they aren't doing that anymore. Same. But they have a great toast snack.
Pleasant little coffee shop with a limited food menu. Patience is a must, as there is often only one employee doing everything. WIFI is fast. Street parking is easy to find during the day.
It took me a while to try this place because I thought it might be too hipster for me from the outside. But this is one of the only coffee places open later than 8-9PM in the area; that alone is enough for the 5th star, and got me in the door. It turns out they have a great selection of tea and espresso drinks. I tried the Milky Way and though it was a tad slow coming out, I was not disappointed. The atmosphere is actually quite cute, with an antique facade at the back, old video game consoles as tables, and lots of windows for natural light. Their snacks are affordable and tasty (avocado toast for less than $20—let alone for $3.75!—is a huge win in the Bay area). I will come back here.
Good coffee. Delicious food. Clean. Standard pricing.
Always glad to stop in at Gaylord's. Friendly longtime faces behind the counter, great menu items and coffee, excellent art on the walls by local artists, currently 2 teachers from Bishop O'Dowd HS. It is a gem of our city, a beloved relic. The sunny corner bench allows for street views and conversation. The outside tables are good for sunny days and/or smokers.
I wanted to give this place a fair shot, the coffee and service is ok but not what it use to be.
It's a nice airy space and lots of natural light. Got a good cup of French roast, decaf, hard to come by. Some outdoor seating too.
They claimed they close early on Tuesdays. But their website and even in store says 11pm. They refused to serve anything after that. Lazy. Also, lady forgot my drink a few times. I'm super laid back, but this place is just disorganized. 🤷🏻♂️
Best morning cup ever!
The coffee was really good. Love the idea of using coffee ice cubes. The black bean veggie burger was surprisingly good! My only complaint was that it was a bit dirty. Could've used a good sweep and wipe down. Great service, coffee, and food though.
I love this place. It’s always open late which is a huge plus in Oakland because it’s hard to find coffee shops open late. I only wish the prices were a tiny bit lower. My large mocha cost me $6-$7 ☹️
Nice and quiet. Great place to work or meet a friend.
Loved going here when I was younger
My favorite haunt! Some of what made Gaylord's great has gone by the wayside as the times have changed. The staff is always friendly and they have a great beverage menu. A great place to visit and hang out!
Solid coffee shop with coffee ice cubes. Genius!
Bad policy of turning off all outlets so you can't work long on your laptop. Cheap bad bread on avocado toast, changed to low end bread and rose the price. Cafe is great and employees amazing.
Good coffee. Nice vibe.
Carmella, the thing to get! They also serve pastries, they have lots of seating, you can play Pac-Man while you wait for your drink or food items, water is complementary, there is seating outside if you have brought your dog along do not worry, inside you will find a windowsill full of great community activities to get involved in which I think is very awesome
Lovely cafe with a lively atmosphere. The coffee was outstanding, perfectly made to my taste. This cafe is open late which is a plus and plenty of space for a group. Give this a place a try!
Great service and delicious lattes.
Best place for coffee lovers. Oakland loves a strong drip coffee. Gaylord' s has strong coffee ice cubes too. You know, just in case. It's tiny and crowded but that's how it is. I wouldn't have it any other way.
The only café in the neighborhood open till midnight. Perfect for getting work done. Vibe is geeky/nerdy with the two Pac-Man arcade tables (which also serve as coffee and work table... how cool is that!)Additionally, sometimes DJ’s will spin records into the night. You might not even notice them... but look above the entrance... it’s a mini stage! This place has character.
Great option for late night coffee in Oakland. My only problem was the flys/gnats. I threw away my cookie because everytime I looked at it there were 2 bugs on it.
Love it! Been going here for years
Verrrrrry pricey. We ordered the "depth charge" which is a mix of black coffee and espresso.. one hot and one iced with the coffee ice cubes. It took a surprisingly long time for such a simple order and no other customers waiting. The half and half was sour but I drank it anyway. Would have liked to try a latte but at $7-$8 a cup there was just no way. You don't even pay those kinda prices in LA.
Great pastries, good coffee. My favorite place to work at coffee shops in the area.
I like coming here with a buddy to chat or with my computer or a book to get things done. Good coffee and a fairly substantial menu for what appears at first glance to be a small basic coffee shop. They have meals, pastries, smoothies and even ice cream treats. Not to mention free Pac Man.
Unpretentious, good coffee, food and service, nice music too
The staff member on register was unfriendly, and made me the wrong drink. When I tasted it, realized it was wrong, and politely asked her to remake it she went on break (or home?) And failed to tell her co-worker to remake the drink. About 20 minutes later I asked if perhaps they forgot to remake the beverage and the co-worker apologized and happily re-made the latte. The latter co-worker was excellent and deserves a 5-star rating, however the initial employee I encountered must have been having a bad day.
Great place to meet with friends
Flies every where and the tables are sticky and unclean
This place has ROACHES!!! Have you ever noticed the yummy pastries in the glass display are individually wrapped in plastic? Well let me tell you why. So last night I went to Gaylord's to do some reading. I went to the counter to order a latte. While standing in line. I looked down at the pastries in the glass display. There were (4) ROACHES crawling on the pastries. One of the ladies that worked there was cleaning the coffee machine. So I quietly called her over and I pointed out the roaches. She just went back to cleaning. I guess that's why Gaylord wrap all those yummy pastries you feed your kids individually in plastic. Parent's I would let your kids eat any of those pastries! So I packed up my things and went back home. I took all my clothes and put them in a bag and washed them. I didn't want to bring any of Gaylord's Roach problem home with me.
Open late which is awesome, staff could be a little more attentive at night but never the less I'm grateful it's open late.
Nice people great food
No restroom. Coffee doesn't taste good either
Loved the environment and the drinks. Great barista.
Today was my first time here and I loved it the guy was awesome and the coffee was wonderful I didn't order coffee but I did try it from my friend and it was amazing I had the tropical tea and that was also good
I can’t believe they closed. I’ll really miss Gaylord’s, their arcade-tables and fancy lattes. Such a loss for the neighborhood - I am devastated.
Really strong coffee and lots of seating and open late. A great place to get work done. Try a drink made with their coffee ice cubes!
Such a cute casual coffee shop. They have an array of pastries, the espresso is really tasty. I had a cappuccino with cinnamon and nutmeg. It can warm and frothy. My friend ordered the Mexican mocha. It has chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg and cayenne pepper for a bit of spice! So tasty. We sat by the window and enjoyed people watching while catching up with friends.
Gave 5 for excellent mexican hot chocolate with a kick of chile to make you all warm inside and good music not canned only too many computers need better lighting so 4 stars
